Quick, Yummy Caramel Apples

Quick, Yummy Caramel Apples

when fall rolls around there is always a running list of things I want to do and see before the season is over. go to pumpkin patches, watch Charlie Brown and the great pumpkin, drink hot cocoa. the list never ends. caramel apples are up there with one of my favorite desserts of all time and I don't know why. its probably because I feel somewhat healthy while eating them and they taste so darn good! even though they are a struggle to make it is always worth it in the end. they look great on dessert table and everyone loves them. the ones I made are pretty simple but you can spice them up with cute sprinkles, different toppings, but I prefer simple and basic.

WHAT YOU NEED:

HOW TO:

you start off by washing the apples and letting them dry. after drying, stick skewers into the apples making sure they stick up straight. place toppings in a plastic bag and seal tightly. then use a spoon to crush until desired. place toppings into separate bowls. unwrap the caramel chews and place them in a bowl (you want the bowl to be big enough to dip the apple into). melt them in the microwave on a low power level (I did level 5) for about 30 seconds, stir, and melt again for maybe a few seconds more if needed. quickly dip the apple into the melted caramel and cover evenly. this part was extremely difficult for me and I asked for an extra set of hands, so don't get frustrated if its pretty hard. just take your time and use a spoon if needed. then sprinkle desired toppings onto the caramel quickly because the caramel hardens pretty fast. then set on a sheet of parchment paper to harden completely. repeat these steps as many times as needed. you can place the apples on a cookie sheet to put into the fridge for faster cooling or just leave out until the caramel hardens (mine did not take long at all). then invite some friends over and enjoy the yummy October treat!
